An Indian mineral resources company has discovered a 320 million ton coal deposit in Tete province’s Zumbo district, Rádio Moçambique reports.
The company will start installing infrastructure to exploit the deposit next year.
The results of the environmental feasibility study [Environmental Impact Assesment] were released in the city of Tete, and the communities affected are being consulted in Mucangádzi, about 100 kilometres from the Zumbo district village headquarters.
The amount of ore discovered could sustain open cast mining over an area of about 5,000 hectares for a period of 30 to 40 years.
Mining operations will be conducted by JSW Adams Carvão, Ltda, at an initial investment of US$20 million.
