The National Elections Commission reacted today to the controversy over the results of the voter registration in Gaza province, saying its figures are reliable despite INE misgivings.
“We do not want to comment on results from other institutions. What we can guarantee is that our data are reliable and are based on the voters who appeared at the voter registration posts and were registered,” CNE spokesman Paulo Cuinica said.
Cuinica insists that voter registration was done in accordance with the law, throughout its entire chain, and highlights the fact that the results were approved by consensus at the district and provincial levels and, despite there being divided opinions at central level, were approved by majority vote.
Renamo CNE member Fernando Mazanga attended a part of the press conference and, at the end, said that Renamo members at CNE do not accept the voter registration numbers.
Controversies aside, the CNE today issued an update on the registration of parties for the forthcoming elections, revealing that, after 19 of the possible 30 days, only three parties – PARENA, PARESO and the MPD – have completed the necessary processes.
