Mozambique police and their Tanzanian counterpart met in Mutwara (Tanzania) this Sunday to draw up joint strategies aimed at combating the insurgents who have been terrorising parts of Cabo Delgado since October 2017.
The meeting, led by the commanders-general of the respective countries, Bernardino Rafael and Simon Sirro, was convened following an attack on the village of Ntole, administrative post of Quionga, Palma district, Cabo Delgado, on [Wednesday] 26 June, which resulted in the deaths of eleven people, nine of them Tanzanian nationals.
At the meeting, which was held behind closed doors, it was decided that the two police forces from Mozambique and from Tanzania would carry out joint operations, with the additional aim of strengthening the fight against drug and human trafficking across the common border.
