The owner of a well-known Maputo wine store kidnapped in April has been released after a ransom was paid, weekly newspaper Canal de Moçambique writes.
Citing a relative of the victim, the newspaper reports that Carlos Camurdine, around 60 years of age, was released last month upon payment of an undisclosed sum and without police intervention.
Carlos Camurdine was abducted outside his establishment in the centre of Maputo on April 3 by three men armed with AK-47 assault rifles.
Mozambique’s main cities had witnessed a wave of abductions since 2012, but this type of crime had waned recently, apparently due to a series of arrests and convictions of the criminals involved.
