Anadarko’s Rovuma gas exploration announcement was made yesterday evening by the CEO of the US oil major. On the UEM campus in the country’s capital, Al Walker said that he hoped that the gas exploitation project in Cabo Delgado would double the country’s current GDP and create more jobs and more opportunities for communities, as well as prompting much infrastructure building in the country.
Speaking in the tent set up on the UEM campus to an audience of 650 people, including members of the Mozambican government, entrepreneurs, academics, community leaders from the exploitation areas and representatives of the concessionaires, Walker said that his company was committed to generating benefits for the Mozambican populations and that gas exploitation would create many business opportunities at the grassroots level.

“We are happy to announce the final investment decision, which confirms our plan. This is a unique opportunity for the Mozambican people,” he said, adding that this was the culmination of a journey begun in 2015.
According to the CEO of Anadarko, the country would not have seen this moment without the unconditional support of the government, and especially of President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi.
“We also acknowledge the support of the population of Cabo Delgado. The size and complexity of the project is of great dimension, and represents a work of love that we have been working on for more than a decade,” Walker concluded.
