Mozambique: Family Income Survey will cost US$5 million

The Family Income Survey (IOF 2019/20) starts in October with a budget of US$5 million, half the amount spent on the previous survey.
The survey’s main objective is to collect information on family income and expenditure and other socio-economic metrics. The final goal is to obtain indicators of the living conditions of families in Mozambique.
The IOF will cover a total of 13,560 families – 7,152 in urban areas and 6,408 in rural areas, in a sample designed to be representative at national and provincial levels, the National Statistics Institute has revealed.
The IOF is also expected to provide a basis for updating the family consumption elements in the calculation of the gross domestic product (GDP).
Other indicators incorporated in this survey, which is expected to take one year to complete, will obtain up-to-date information on housing, durable goods, health, employment, education and tourism.
In preparation, a workshop was held on Monday to gather information to develop the tools that will be used to collect data, while on Tuesday, training of the investigators who will carry out a pilot survey in July started.
The main survey is scheduled for 21 October 2019 to 20 October 2020.
The last four Family Income Surveys, conducted between 1996 and 2015, cost about US$21 million.
