About the event
Exit Through The Giftshop: Banksy Film is a 2010 British documentary, directed by street artist Banksy. It tells the story of Thierry Guetta, a French immigrant in Los Angeles, and his obsession with street art. The film records Guetta's constant documenting of all his moments in the film, from a chance encounter with his cousin, the artist Invader, to his presentation to a series of street artists focusing on Shepard Fairey and Banksy, whose anonymity is preserved by the obscuration of his face and altering his voice. It is narrated by Rhys Ifans and the music is of Geoff Barrow.
The film premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2010, and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary.
Since its launch, there has been an extensive debate over whether the documentary is genuine or a mockumentary, although Banksy replied "Yes" when asked if the film is real.
