The government of Mozambique and the World Bank will today sign financing agreements totalling US$87.6 million for the national electricity programme, ‘Energy for All’.
Together with the World Bank itself, the governments of Sweden and Norway have contributed to this amount, and Sweden’s Minister of Development and Cooperation and Norway’s Deputy Minister of Cooperation will witness the signing.
The Energy for All national electricity programme, was launched by Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi on November 12 of last year, with the main objective of ensuring that all Mozambicans have access to electricity by 2030, as advocated by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, which Mozambique has adopted.
The amount covered by these agreements represents the initial tranche of the total US$200 million which willing aid partners will make available for the implementation of the programme by Mozambique Electricity (EDM) and the Mozambican Energy Fund (Funae).
