The verdict in the second criminal case related to the armed attacks in Cabo Delgado has been delayed, allegedly because it is still under consideration.
The verdict in case number 99/2018 should have been known on Wednesday. The delay was confirmed by a source from the Judicial Court of the Province of Cabo Delgado, who failed to elaborate on any reasons.
The criminal case is the second relating to the armed attacks in the province, its 34 defendants being judged by the Judicial Court of the Province of Cabo Delgado.
Of the 189 defendants in the first case, whose sentences were read on 24 April, 10 were sentenced to 40 years in prison, 24 to 16 years, three to 12 years and 113 acquitted for lack of evidence.
In both cases, as well as three others related to the same case and awaiting trial, the defendants are accused of practising qualified homicide, possession of prohibited weapons, association to commit a crime, and instigation of collective disobedience.
The armed attacks in Cabo Delgado began in October 2017, their motivation remaining still a matter of speculation.
