Mozambique: Exxon Mobil prepares new prospection wells for April 2020

Exxon Mobil expects to begin drilling the seabed off Mozambique to search for oil and gas in April 2020, the company announced on Friday.
“The start is scheduled for April 2020,” according to a call for expressions of interest for the equipment supply.
“The project currently has two prospection wells (with an estimate of 45 days per well), plus an optional well.”
Exxon Mobil is looking for a ship “with qualified personnel for drilling at a depth of 2,500m of water.”
The works are taking place in the exploration blocks A5-B (Angoche basin), Z5-C and Z5-D (Zambezi basin).
The three blocks, located in the central area of the Mozambican coast (which is about 2,000km long), were allocated in October to a consortium led by Exxon Mobil, after an international tender launched by the Mozambican government in 2014 in London.
In addition to Exxon Mobil, with a 50% share, state company ENH holds 20%, Rosneft holds 20% and Qatar Petroleum holds 10%.
The oil company is already present in another consortium expected to start exploring natural gas in Area 4, north of the country, from 2022 onwards.
