Mozambique’s president, Filipe Nyusi, on Wednesday praised the Chinese Initiative “One Belt, One Road”, reaffirming the country’s commitment to the international vision of Beijing, during a signing ceremony of various agreements with his Chinese counterpart.
Nyusi said he was willing to play an “active role” in the construction of “One Belt, One Road” in sub-Saharan Africa.
A network of railways and highways will connect the western region of China to Europe and the Indian Ocean, crossing Russia and Central Asia, and there will be a range of ports in Africa and the Mediterranean waters that will strengthen the maritime links of the prosperous Chinese coastal cities.
The Chinese project is “very important” for Mozambique and the African continent and “benefits” the sustainable development and the growth of the world economy, he said.
Nyusi was welcomed at the Palácio do Povo in Beijing by China’s president, Xi Jinping.
