At least 133 land titles, granted more than two years ago and corresponding to 139,000 hectares of land, will be taken back from their current holders and redirected to other stakeholders in the province of Inhambane, southern Mozambique.
Provincial government spokesman Simão Mavimbe said the measure was adopted during the seventh ordinary session of the government of Inhambane, after an in-depth analysis of the state of implementation of land-use plans in the province, mainly in the areas of tourism and agro-livestock.
The government has been forced to apply drastic measures, having exhausting all forms of persuading the legitimate owners to implement the exploitation plans approved when the land use titles (DUATS) were assigned.
