Chissano appointed president of International Consultative Committee of the China-Africa Institute

Former Mozambican president Joaquim Chissano was appointed president of the International Consultative Committee of the China-Africa Institute in an inauguration ceremony in Beijing on Tuesday.
The committee, composed of retired politicians, academics and prominent Chinese and African personalities, will provide strategic advice and guidance to the China-Africa Institute, an institution created within the scope of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum.
In addition to his participation in an international symposium on the creation of the China-Africa Institute, Chissano visited the headquarters of the China Railway International Group (CRIG), a Chinese company with interests in the Limpopo Valley Project, which includes the construction of a port near Xai-Xai and a railroad from the port to the connection on the Limpopo line at Macarretane, with extensions to the heavy sand mines of Chibuto and to Inharrime and Jangamo.
During his visit to CRIG, Chissano was received by the CEO and other executives. The visit showcased the breadth and quality of CRIG’s output, with the company’s management expressing interest in further developing the Limpopo Valley Project, it having the technical and financial capacity to do so, and the project being capable of leveraging the economic and social development of Gaza province generally.
