About the event
The International Jazz Day is an International Day declared by Unesco in 2011 "to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people from all over the world." It is celebrated annually on 30 April. The idea came from the jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, and is chaired by Hancock, along with the director-general of UNESCO.
Kuche Quintet is led by the Mozambican saxophonist Timóteo Cuche and proposes a concert tribute to the history of African Jazz, including names like Abdullah Ibrahim, Fela Kuti, Manu Dibango, Hugh Masekela, to the most contemporary such as Jimmy Dludlu, Ivan Mazuze, Kaya Mlhango and other great African Jazz singers.
