President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal has announced his desire to visit Mozambique later this year, adding that Portugal will continue to help the country rebuild after the devastation of Cyclone Idai.
“If President Nyusi agrees with me and finds that conditions are right, I would like, at the end of the year, in response to an invitation he has already made, to go to Mozambique to witness this new phase of reconstruction and the resumption of the lives of thousands and thousands of our brothers,” the Portuguese president said.
The Portuguese president had already expressed his willingness to visit Mozambique after Cyclone Idai, but said that it was not the right time, since sending aid must take priority.
