About Suzy Bila
Maria Suzete Bila (Suzy Bila) was born in Maputo, Mozambique, on August 23, 1974. She started her artistic journey at the age of 19, in 1993, and was awarded a prize in a national competition, “DESCOBERTAS” (discovery of new talents) in Mozambique.
At the end of 1996, at the age of 22, she moved to Portugal, where she lives.
From 1998, and for five years, she attended an education and training program in Artistic Painting at the Centre for Visual Arts and Communication “Ar.co”.
In contact with the works of other artists, she created her own artistic identity over and beyond the traditional artistic influences of her country of origin.
Her art carries a symbolic load of the singularities of women in a daily life of a changing world.
She studies and develops the inclusion of children’s diverse ways of speaking and communication into the development of curricula from kindergarten onwards, taking art as a tool for the development of children’s way and capacity of thinking.
Her Masters dissertation, “Como motivar a descoberta da arte na creche”, was about the strategies to motivate the discovery of art in pre-school education and led to innovative strategies of intervention at the level of kindergarten.
She has made several conference presentations.
