The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, arrived early this afternoon in Zambézia to monitor the effects of cyclone IDAI, which affected part of Zambézia, Beira, Manica and Inhambane, reports Quelimane based Diário da Zambézia on its Facebook page.
In his interaction with the population awaiting him, Nyusi says he has seen families on top of houses, especially in Sofala, and roads cut off as a result of the cyclone.
The President said that there were means of relief ready, especially to provide food and water to those in need, hoping that weather conditions improve at Beira Airport.
“I saw dramatic situations, houses without roof, people asking for help,” said the president.
“It is necessary that we don not allow ourselves to be alarmed. Unfortunately, when we try to solve one problem along comes another one,” Nyusi said.
It should be noted that, by the time Diário da Zambézia was editing this content, President Nyusi was flying over Chinde district and was to then proceed to Nicoadala and Namacurra.
