Mozambique: Nampula Brewery named Best in Africa

A brewery in Nampula, northern Mozambique, has been named number one in the entire African continent.

Levels of water consumption, safety standards, productivity, quality of products and the qualifications of workers were among the criteria that put the Cervejas de Moçambique Nampula plant at the top in the list.

“We joined the ABInBev group in 2016 and today we receive this recognition. We are proud to know that our effort and work are recognised across borders,” said Hugo Gomes, Administrator of Cervejas de Moçambique (CDM), quoted in a statement from the group sent to AIM today.

CDM is part of the largest brewing group in the world, ABInbev, the owner of more than 200 brands, including Budweiser, and with a presence in 140 countries worldwide.

Currently the Nampula CDM plant employs more than 131 workers and produces the brands Manica, 2M and Laurentina Preta.

Beers of Mozambique (CDM) is a 23-year-old company that resulted from the privatisation of the former Sogere brewery in 1995. CDM produces flagship brands such as 2M, Laurentina, Manica, Impala, Castle Lite, and markets global brands such as Budweiser and Stella Artois. CDM’s brands are also sought after by consumers in South Africa, Portugal and the United Kingdom – the countries to which it exports 2M and Laurentina.

CDM has three breweries in Mozambique: in Maputo, in the south of the country, Beira (centre) and Nampula (north), and employs more than 1000 workers.
