President Filipe Nyusi yesterday offered, via his Facebook page, his heartfelt condolences to families bereaved by the Ethiopian Airlines plane crash in Ethiopia on Sunday.
“I received yesterday (Sunday) the sad news of the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines aircraft, with 157 people on board, of various nationalities, including a Mozambican. On behalf of the Mozambican people and in my personal name, we send condolences to the bereaved families,” the president’s message reads .
The Ethiopian Airline aircraft crashed near the town of Bishoftu, 62 kilometres southeast of the capital Addis Ababa, the airline said.
More than 35 nationalities were represented among the 157 people killed when the Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi crashed six minutes after take-off on Sunday morning. The Boeing 737 Max 8 plane was believed to be carrying 149 passengers and eight crew members when it hit the ground.
Ethiopian Airlines is one of the largest African airlines. The cause of the crash is still unknown.
