About Waka Mbira
Waka Mbira (Patsi Phantima) is a Mozambican band from the city of Maputo that fuses traditional and modern rhythms (AfroFusion).
The band incorporates traditional African rhythms, to preserve the culture, bringing in their compositions constructive messages to promote peace, love of the neighbour and the daily life of Mozambicans.
The band has performed at Gil Vicente, Núcleo de Arte, Associação dos Músicos Moçambicanos, Centro Cultural Franco Moçambicano (CCFM), Conselho Municipal, Dahtonga, Fatima’s Backpackers to name a few. They have participated in music festival such as Music Festival, Festival Raiz, Festival Afro Swing, battle of bands at the 2015 Azgo Festival and in concerts with Xixel Langa, Mingos Massala, Isabel Novella, Ali Faque and others.
Th band plays traditional instruments like: Mbira, Xitende, Xigovia Camcubwe. They hold and guides workshops for the construction and handling of traditional instruments.
