New ports built in Mozambique should incorporate safety measures to counter terrorist and cybernetic attacks as well as natural disasters, the country’s minister of transport and communications, Carlos Mesquita, said in the capital, Maputo, on Wednesday.
Mesquita said at a ceremony for the opening of the 11th Congress of the Association of Ports of Portuguese-Language Countries (APLOP) that they needed to reflect on how to make infrastructure more resilient.
He also defended the need for greater control of the weight of cargo containers for port security and navigation companies.
APLOP was founded in 2011 to defend the interests of its members and contribute to the modernisation of ports in the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP).
