President Nyusi met the president of Renamo, Ossufo Momade, in the presidential palace this morning, but the meeting ended without any statement to the press.
Ossufo Momade was accompanied by Eduardo Namburete, André Magibire, and other Renamo staff, and the meeting was attended by the Swiss ambassador, who chairs the International Contact Group supporting the government and Renamo in the negotiations.
Ossufo Momade has been in Maputo since yesterday, having left Gorongosa after the announcement by the Chief of General Staff that 11 senior Renamo military officers would lead an equal number of departments and units of the Defence Armed Forces of Mozambique under the Memorandum of Understanding on Demilitarisation, Demobilisation and Reintegration signed by himself and President Nyusi at the end of last year.
It is not yet known whether Momade’s departure from the Gorongosa mountains is final or not.
