Various South African companies linked to the textile industry are reported to be interested in bringing Textáfrica’s Chimoio plant back into operation, Manica Governor Manuel Rodrigues announced during a visit to the company’s premises.
South African businesspeople have visited the factory and expressed an interest in investing in its reactivation.
According to Governor Rodrigues, foreign interest in the complex has been increasing over the last three years. Before the South Africans, visitors had included Indian, Chinese and Japanese entrepreneurs.
‘Noticias’ goes on to say that the governor visited the premises to find out about changes in progress there and to ascertain the physical condition of the plant.
Governor Rodrigues said that both central and provincial government were looking for partners who could put the factory back on the continent’s textile industry map.
Textáfrica do Chimoio was once one of the biggest textile factories on the continent, but has been out of action for more than 20 years.
