A citizen is being held by police in the district of Nicoadala, Zambézia province, accused of trying to sell his son for 10,000 meticais ( around US$160 at current exchange rates].
To execute his plan, man said that the child would go to the city to study.
The alleged buyer was a man living in Beira city, Sofala province, according to police spokesman Sidner Lonzo.
The case, classified as one of human trafficking, reached the ears of the police through a complaint made by the supposed buyer, who said that he had been contacted by the child’s father because he needed money.
The man denied trying to sell his son, but @Verdade has established that the money was to pay off debts and buy food.
The child told law enforcement officials that when his father told him that he was going to travel in the company of a person he did not know, he thought it was for study.
In addition, @Verdade is aware that the man had been trying to sell his son without the knowledge of his wife and family since last year.
