A group of Mozambican civil society organisations is advocating the creation of a single civil identification document, which they call citizen’s card, to reduce the costs of acquiring documents, it was announced today.
“The adoption of the citizen card proposal could have a significant impact on the life of every person – and public spending, as it would reduce red tape and time,” they said in a statement.
The objective is to bring together in one single element the civil, fiscal, electoral, social security identification and the driving license.
The proposal is an initiative of the Mozambican Citizenship Observatory in partnership with the Mechanism to Support Civil Society (MASC) Foundation, and arises from debates involving civil society forums across the country.
The organisations have already submitted a proposal to the cabinet of the Mozambican prime minister, Carlos Agostinho de Rosario.
