The patrol of the region of Chiramba, in Sofala, is already being done by the men of Renamo, reports Voa Português.
Renamo made its first administrative occupation on Sunday, April 24, by taking control of the territoryof Chiramba in the Chemba district, in Mozambique’s Sofala province, one of the regions that it threatens to rule by force.
A group of armed men from the party led by Afonso Dhlakama assailed the state building, took control of the government’s protocolar residences and harnessed the official flags, to then take the local police station as their headquarters.
The report was made to VOA by residents in the area.
The group has conducted patrols with the police motorcycle, which was ripped off from the only agent who was on duty during the invasion and who was left out alive.
Mozambique is experiencing a new political and military instability, which has seen an upsurge of violence with attacks on civilian vehicles in columns escorted by the army in two sections of the main road of Mozambique, due to Renamo’s refusal to recognize the 2014 election results.
The party led by Afonso Dhlakama continues to threaten to rule the six provinces of central and northern Mozambique where it claimed victory in the 2014 elections.
