Mozambique: Teachers claim they are being transferred for “demanding their rights”
The Mozambican government’s National Inspectorate of Economic Activities (INAE) on Wednesday announced that it is launching of a campaign to clamp down on counterfeit goods from China which are entering the market.
To tackle the problem, fifty inspectors from INAE and the customs service are taking part in a joint training course. According to the INAE national director of operations Ali Mussa, working together with customs officers will bring better results in the fight against pirated products.
Mussa told Radio Mozambique that “we are undergoing training so that we can take action in the near future to prevent the entry of these products at ports, airports, and border crossings, and also prevent counterfeit goods from being sold on the market”.
In particular, INAE believes that the main destinations for these fake goods are the cities of Maputo, Matola, Beira, and Nampula.
In recent years INAE has had success seizing counterfeit goods, particularly ink cartridges falsely labelled as being manufactured by the international technology company Hewlett Packard (HP). Last year it seized more than a thousand toner units and imposed fines of between 500,000 and a million meticais (roughly between 8,000 and 16,000 US dollars).
