‘Women Here and Now’ at the Brazil-Mozambique Cultural Centre in Maputo
Mgodo Tracks @ CCFM
Mgodo Tracks is a contemporary and up-to-date version of Mgodo, a traditional concert form of the Chopi culture, in which different types of African and Western music are combined with new technologies. The concert is a multicolored party, revolving around the pleasure of playing and listening to music, both for musicians and for the public. Mgodo Tracks makes us immerse in the warmth of people and everyday life in Southern Africa.
Mgodo Tracks is not the transformation of a traditional African artistic or cultural expression into a contemporary work of art, according to the Western canon. The project is deeper: it aligns with our globalized environment and with the imagination of all the individual artists involved. Mgodo Tracks does not look back, nor glorify a past (gone). Mgodo Tracks analyses a future in which different cultures come together and evolve through dialogue between equal individuals, in this case, artists. Diversity and cultural differences can be the engine of a society, its culture and its arts.
