The MDM member in the Matola Municipal Assembly, Renato Muelega, says that he and the only other member of his party in that body voted for the Renamo candidate.
But Frelimo candidate Vasco Muthisse was the elected to preside the House of Representatives with 30 votes.
Frelimo has 29 members in the Matola Municipal Assembly against Renamo’s 28 and the MDM’s two. For Frelimo or Renamo to win, they would have needed the support of the MDM.
Muelega says Renamo should have “done its homework”, implying that a Renamo member must have voted for the Frelimo candidate.
