The Mozambican state expects to raise US$670 (EUR 587.6 million) in taxes from the first phase of oil and gas exploration in five new blocks, president of the Tax Authority Amelia Nakhare has said.
Nakhare said in an interview published today by the newspaper Noticias that the revenues would come from hiring services by the multinationals involved in prospecting.
The oil consortium set to participate in the exploration last year signed oil block concession agreements with the Mozambican government as part of Mozambique’s fifth international hydrocarbons exploration tender.
The Mozambican state is banking on further hydrocarbon research and exploration activity following on from the discovery of huge quantities of gas and coal in recent years.
