Nampula transporters ‘cry’ over shrinking business

Transporters in Nampula say they are not benefiting from business opportunities because multinationals hire services from companies in other provinces.
The Port of Nacala, in the coastal part of the province of Nampula, presents perfect natural conditions for maritime traffic. Its deep waters of up to 26 meters allow large vessels to dock.
And a port is, by nature, a great potential for generating business opportunities for other areas, including road logistics. This is where the big question lies for businessmen of Nampula.
The Nampula Road Transport Association says one cannot speak of lack of capacitybecause, he says, “local businessmen have a considerable fleet of large tonnage trucks”.
At the end of last year, the African Development Bank made available a $1 million fund to enable 50 local small and medium-sized enterprises to meet the conditions required by mega projects in the Nacala Corridor.
The Port of Nacala attracts cargo from all provinces in the Northern part of the country that arrives and leaves by road.
