Military Hospital honors Samora Machel with nursing building

The Minister of National Defense, Atanásio Mtumuke, inaugurated on Monday a building in the Military Hospital named after the first President of the Republic of Mozambique, Samora Machel.
A tribute to Samora Machel for his two major professions: nurse and military. The Military Hospital of Maputo decided to baptize its new building with one of the most skilled soldiers in the country, who, moreover, had previously been a nurse.
The building was inaugurated by Mtumuke. In fact it was reopened. The fact is that the building in reference was built in colonial times. At the time the objective was to house Portuguese soldiers.
Once independence was achieved, Mozambique no longer needed to house some soldiers and so the building was abandoned. During these years all of independence, the place was abandoned and in the interior grass grew.
In 2015 a rehabilitation project began which cost about 2.5 million US dollars. The Government of Donald Trump, through Jhpiego, supported the initiative by financing in full.
At the time of inauguration, Mtumuke demanded the commitment of all actors in the military health sector to take care of this new infrastructure and ensure that everyone has an ever better treatment.
To this end, “we advise the military health sector, with a focus on the technicians and staff in this area to make the best use of this infrastructure and the facilities installed in it to honor the efforts of our partners to increase our capacity to intervene” , said Mtumuke.
Dean Pittman, ambassador of United States in Maputo also pointed out that the United States has been supporting such initiatives up to now.
“In the last two years, we have opened new treatment sites in nine provinces across the country,” the diplomat recalled, adding: “We are far from finished, through our implementing partner, Jhpiego, we will open five health facilities military next year. “
On Monday Mtumuke also inaugurated the Boane Military Health Center in Maputo province, also funded by the United States of America.
