Trade between China and Portuguese-speaking countries exceeds US$108 billion from January to September

The value of trade between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries reached US$108.928 billion from January to September, a year-on-year increase of 21.22%, according to official Chinese data released by Forum Macau.

China exported goods worth US$31.54 billion (+19.88%) to the eight Portuguese-speaking countries in the period under analysis and bought goods in the amount of US$77.387 billion (+21.78%), taking on a trade deficit of US$45.87 billion.

Brazil, China’s largest trading partner in the world, comes first with trade of US$81.77 billion (+22.60%), with Chinese exports totalling US$25.4 billion (+21.80%) and Brazilian exports in the amount of US$56.293 billion (+23.0%).

Angola is in second place with two-way trade worth US$20.5 billion (+17.50%), with China selling products to Angola worth US$1.644 billion (+1.20%) and purchasing goods valued at US$18.886 billion (+19.10%).

With Portugal, bilateral trade amounted to US$4.533 billion (+7.60%), with China exporting goods worth US$2.806 billion (+4.70%) and having bought Portuguese products in the amount of US$1.727 billion (+12.50%).

Fourth, in order of value, was Mozambique which had trade in the amount of US$1.941 million (+46.70%), with China selling goods in the amount of US$1.472 billion (+57.0%) and bought products worth US$469 million (+21.60%)

Trade between China and the other Portuguese-speaking countries – Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), Guinea Bissau, Sao Tome and Principe and Timor-Leste (East Timor) – reached US$170.3 million in the first nine months of the year.
