Mozambique: PRM is now wearing blue uniforms – Watch

Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi yesterday presided over the closing ceremony of the XXXVIII Basic Police Training Course at the Matalana Police School. The graduation of the new agents took place on the very day the police changed their look, appearing in a new uniform which, for the president, also signifies the purification of the force.

In his speech, the president welcomed and praised the Ministry of Interior, the General Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique and the Direction of the Practical School of Matalane for their unstinting dedication to police training.

“The cadres formed here are equipped with technical, professional, scientific and practical skills that respond to the demands and challenges of each stage of our socio-economic development, as well as the yearnings of our population,” President Nyusi said.

Fighting crime and dealing with road accidents were among the challenges the new graduates would face, the president said. “We are confident that from now on, they will dedicate all their energies and knowledge to the service of the Mozambican people,” he added.

The Commander-in-Chief also said that he did not want to see the new uniform used in the extortion of citizens. One graduate, Virginia Bartolomeu Francisco, said: “I will comply with the oath I have given today with the utmost strength and dignity.”

466,235,080 meticais

Meanwhile, @Verdade reports that the change from the old grey to the new blue uniform is costing 466,235,080 meticais, the sum being divided between the 2018 and 2019 State Budgets.

The same source adds that the new uniforms cost more than all projected investment spending in the province of Niassa over the next year (300.4 million meticais), or for Manica province (397.1 million), or for Inhambane province (310 million).
