Ricardo Barradas to launch two books @ CCP “Ilha da Moçambique, stories of its history” and “Memories of the elephants of Mozambique”
The Portuguese Cultural Center (CCP) will launch two important books by Ricardo Barradas: "Ilha de Moçambique, Stories of its History" and "Memories of the elephants of Mozambique".
The works will be presented on this occasion by Álvaro Carmo Vaz, Professor of the Eduardo Mondlane University and the first Bâtonnier of the Order of Engineers of Mozambique, in a session that will be moderated by Filimone Meigos, sociologist, writer, journalist, and director of the Higher Institute of Arts and Communication.
"Ilha de Moçambique, estórias da sua história", represents a contribution to the commemorations of the 200 years of elevation of the Island of Mozambique, and "Memoria dos elefantes de Moçambique" recalls how the ivory trade was, besides trade in gold and enslaved, an important motor for the development of Mozambique; the massacre of elephants and their violent environmental aggression in the country, especially in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries determined by the ivory trade, is a basic part of this book.
In the author's opinion, this vast work is mainly dedicated to young Mozambicans in an attempt to promote and facilitate a better knowledge of the rich history of Mozambique.
