The Independent Democratic Action party (ADI in the original Portuguese), which won the legislative elections in Sao Tome and Principe is going to put the education minister from the out-going government, Olinto Daio, to lead the next government, a party source told Lusa on Tuesday.
The party leaders took the decision after the out-going prime minister, Patrice Trovoada, announced he did not intend to lead the new government following the 7 October elections that his party won with a simple majority (25 seats in the 55 seat parliament).
On 11 November the ADI national council recommended the party to form a government and to pursue negotiations with other political forces.
A party source told Lusa on Tuesday that the ADI leaders had chosen to appoint Olinto Daio.
Parliament is sworn in on Thursday and the country’s president, Evaristo Carvalho, is then expected to call the parties to form a government.
