The President of the Republic of Mozambique and of Frelimo, Felipe Jacinto Nyusi, has welcomed a delegation from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) led by comrade José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera, member of the Secretariat and head of its International Department, reports Granma today.
In a brotherly and fraternal atmosphere, the leaders exchanged views on the current state of the historical relations between the two peoples and parties, while agreeing on the importance of continuing to strengthen ties.
The Mozambican president reaffirmed his country’s support for Cuba in its fight against the US blockade imposed on the island, and reported on the peace process taking place in his own country.
For his part, Comrade Balaguer thanked Mozambique for its strong support of Cuba and updated the president on the implementation of the agreements of the VI and VII Congresses of the Party, and particularly on efforts underway to secure progress in the economic and social fields despite the blockade, intensified by the current US administration, and which is the main obstacle to Cuba’s development. He also explained the preliminary results of a broad process of popular consultation on constitutional reform.
Prior to the meeting with President Nyusi, official talks were held between the two political parties [the PCC and Frelimo] chaired by the Frelimo secretary general, Roque Silva, and by comrade Balaguer.
