Mozambique Electricity (EDM) has cut power to the Zambezia Provincial Health Directorate in response to unpaid debt of around 4.5 million meticais (US$73.8 thousand at current exchange rates).
Zambezia Health Directorate acknowledges the debt and says that it has requested the amount from central government for payment.
Meanwhile, Gil Esteu, a Zambezia Health Directorate representative, told O País that the situation is undermining the normal functioning of the institution.
The EDM says there is no room for debt negotiation. The total debt to EDM of the health sector in the six districts of Quelimane distribution area alone is close to 22 million meticais (US$36.1 thousand).
