Lucrécia Paco and Expedito Araujo honour Brazilian poet Mário de Andrade
In honor of the great Brazilian writer Mário de Andrade, the actors Lucrécia Paco and Expedito Araujo will present, in a dramatic reading format, the show Macunaíma, adaptation of one of the most memorable and important texts in Brazilian literature.
Macunaíma is a canon of Brazilian literature and one of the most characteristic works of Modernism in Brazil. The presentation is based mainly on innovative linguistic aspects, as well as on the issue of the text organically integrating different ways of speaking and living, seeking to represent the miscegenation of Brazilian society. For this reason, the work is considered part of the literary movement Pau Brasil.
Mário Raul de Morais Andrade was a Brazilian poet, novelist, musicologist, art historian and critic, and photographer. One of the founders of Brazilian modernism, he virtually created modern Brazilian poetry with the publication of his Paulicéia Desvairada (Hallucinated City) in 1922. He has had an enormous influence on modern Brazilian literature, and as a scholar and essayist—he was a pioneer of the field of ethnomusicology—his influence has reached far beyond Brazil
