Mozambique: Government publishes Maputo port concession contract, more to come
The Labour consulttive Commission (CCT) of Mozambique announced yesterday that it had reached consensus on the national minimum wage in all nine business sectors.
According to CCT general secretary João Loforte, the salary increase rates will be submitted to Cabinet for approval.
“Despite vicissitudes like the drought and floods, the CCT had serenity and responsibility enough for the parties to understand and move to adjust rates consistent with maintaining employment”, he announced.
The new salaries, agreed between trade unions and employers on Monday, will be back-dated to April 1.
Despite the difficult economic conditions, employers have increased the minimum wage in all business sectors.
The press conference organized to announce this however failed to reveal by how much. By way of explanation, Loforte said: “The CCT is a consultative body. Negotiations took place and agreement was reached, but it is not for us, ultimately, to decide the readjustment rates.”
