Mozambique: ENI Open Day
Borderlines – Panaibra Gabriel Canda @ Franco|Maputo
'Borderlines'' is a search around the behaviour of the human being and a look at the body as a territory to be occupied; interpersonal relationships associated with concepts such as physicality and territorial integrity, desire and repulsion, freedom and imposition, superiority and domination that leads to conflict, questioning how it finds a world of interdependence and where differences can be placed in a relationship of co-habitation and interdependence.
'Borderlines' is inspired by 16 years of civil war history in Mozambique, a war financed by foreign powers, and by today's world of ethnic and religious wars, regime changes and by the utopia of a new world order.
'Borderlines' was created in Mozambique where it was presented only in the form of extracts since its inception. This will be the debut in Mozambique after touring the United States, Switzerland (Geneve, Bern, Basel, Lugano), Germany (Berlin, Bremen, Mains) and the United Kingdom.
Born in Maputo, Panaibra Gabriel Canda trained in theatre, music and dance, studying with Vera Mantero (Portugal), Frans Poelstra (Netherlands), Meg Stuart (US/Belgium) and Reggie Wilson (US). 1998 he founded CulturArte, a company and producing organisation that develops artistic projects, workshops and training programs for artists in Mozambique. In 2007 (IN)DEPENDENCE an inclusive dance project was launched. As a dancer and choreographer Panaibra has been actively developing works that have been presented in US, Africa, Europe and Latin America.
