The well-known Chimoio-based entrepreneur Mahomed Iqbal, who was abducted from his home near the Catanga market on 10 August, is back with his family since last Friday after an unspecified ransom was paid to his kidnappers.
Iqbal is the owner of Mafuia Motors, Mafuia Comercial and Manica Shopping Centre.
The family source who confirmed the information to O Pais revealed that he is in a stable condition, and that for the two months he was kept in captivity somewhere in Sofala his kidnappers were careful to provide meals and medication.
“He is stable although weak, because he certainly did not eat properly. However, because he has a health condition, we will seek a medical diagnosis to check his current state of health,” the source said. The amount paid by the family to secure Iqbal’s release was not disclosed, though it known that negotiations started only a week prior to his release.
