Mozambique’s government expects 15.6% growth in railway transport of goods and passengers by 2019, according to projections made by the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Mozambique.
One hundred new freight wagons will be used to divert goods transported by road onto Mozambique’s railroads, according to the projections cited by daily newspaper O País, which point to a faster pace of growth than expected for 2018.
The data is also based on the expected consolidation of the Metrobus project, an intercity passenger train network that covers Maputo and the surrounding area.
The government estimates 5.6% growth in air transport, spurred by domestic and regional connections.
