Mozaband is leaving for Macao in China to represent Mozambique in the 10th edition of the China and Portuguese-Language Countries Cultural Week, and in the 21st Lusofonia Festival from 13 to 21 October.
The delegation of Mozaband musicians is represented by Stewart Sukuma, Roberto Chitsondzo, Belita and Domingas and Simão Nhacule, and the performing band is composed of Carlos Gove (bass guitar), Bernardo Domingos (guitar), Simão Nhancule (percussion) and Stélio Zoe (drums). The travelling delegation includes other members related to management and production, the press and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Silva Dunduro, attended the group’s final preparations and said that the country would be well represented, with Mozaband bringing to the public the essence of the Mozambican sound.
“This time we decided to prepare something special, a show with wider representation giving a broader impression of our country. I came here to wish these artists a good performance, and to take the country with them in their hearts,” Dunduro said.
Stewart Sukuma, one of Mozambique’s most celebrated artists and the man responsible for Mozaband’s artistic direction, was effusive in his anticipation.
“It is a privilege to play this role, despite it being a big responsibility, because we have made this commitment to take the country in our hands, and we need to do it with competence and respect. In addition to the musicians involved, there is a team which forms a key component of the group. Everyone who participates, be they musicians, managers, producers or directors of the delegation, is important in representing the country,” Stewart said.
Legendary Mozambican musician and bass player Carlos Gove, who is musical director of the project, said the group was well prepared.
“We are a group of professionals already well experienced in these tours. Each member brings his personal touch, without neglecting the collective representation of the country. We take every job seriously, especially when we are at an event where several countries are represented.”
Mozaband manager Ana Girão says the Mozambican band is expected to play six concerts in various locations in Macao, presenting Mozambique’s music, dances and traditional costumes and mirroring the cultural richness of the country’s various provinces.
The event takes place in Macau from 13 to 21 October.
