The Mozambican Ministry of Education and Human Development (MINEDH) estimates that 1.5 million children will be enrolled this year in the first year for the 2019 school year.
“We want all children who turn six in 2019 to be studying,” said MINEDH spokesman Manuel Simbine, quoted by Mozambican daily newspaper Noticias on Tuesday.
Enrollment for the first year of primary school in Mozambique is free, as a way to ensure universal access to education for children, Simbine added.
“There is no reason why parents and guardians should not enroll their children on time,” said the MINEDH spokesman.
Registration for the first year of primary school will be open until 31 December.
