On Tuesday, October 1, 2018, the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources will launch a ‘Water for Life’ programme in the Mueda district of Cabo Delgado province, a showcase event that will be led by President Nyusi.
Government members, the diplomatic corps, representatives of cooperation partners, civil society and the private sector, as well as the heads of public institutions are also expected to attend.
The programme is part of the government’s intensification of the construction or rehabilitation of water supply and sanitation infrastructures in the scope of its water subsector Five Year Plan.
This entails investing some 4.8 billion meticais in the construction of about 40 water storage dams, 62 water supply systems, 80 dispersed water sources, and10,000 new home connections.
The national programme prioritises the construction of water supply systems in critical and in an emergency situation areas, as well as works paralysed due to lack of financing and new construction requested by local governments.
The project, which also includes irrigation and watering systems, is expected to benefit more than 2.1 million people in all.
