Mozambican company wins groundbreaking award at ITU Telecom World 2018

The Mozambican company Ologa Sistemas Informáticos has won a 2018 Telecom World award from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for developing an application that helps healthcare teams monitor sick children, the company announced this week.
The Sure Track application facilitates the collection and storage of patient information for easy access in databases.
“The award is the recognition of the work done to improve the lives of vulnerable children,” ITU manager Mulweli Rebelo said.

This year’s ITU awards event was held in Durban, South Africa, last week during the international fair promoted by the organisation and attended by 14 Mozambican start-ups. The awards highlight “i-tech solutions with the potential to change lives across the globe”.
The Mozambican company shared second place on the podium with the Nigerian company Dropque, in the ‘ Most scalable’ solutions category for companies with the most potential for growth, the winner of which was Talamus Health of the USA.
Ologa’s majority shareholder is the investment company Gapi, a public-private partnership “which focuses primarily on rural development through the growth of entrepreneurship and the expansion of the financial system to remote regions”.

Houlin Zhao: ITU Secretary-General
On 23 October 2014 Houlin Zhao was elected 19th Secretary-General of the ITU. His four-year mandate started on 1 January 2015.
Born in 1950 in Jiangsu, China, Mr Zhao graduated from Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and holds an MSc in Telematics from the University of Essex in the UK.
From 2007 to 2014, he served as ITU Deputy Secretary-General, supporting the work of the Secretary-General, principally in terms of day-to-day management, including human resources, financial administration, improving efficiency, and working to help broaden ITU’s membership, particularly in terms of academic institutions.
