Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi, in his capacity as President of the ruling Frelimo Party, on Sunday, at a rally in the western city of Tete, publicly presented all 53 of Frelimo’s mayoral candidates for the municipal elections scheduled for 10 October.
“This is my football team that will win in the championship of 10 October”, declared Nyusi. “My trainer is here, our General Secretary Roque Silva, and he already has players able to bring us good results”.
“This team is prepared to rubber-stamp our victory on 10 October”, he said, as he introduced, not only the mayoral candidates, but also the members of the Frelimo Political Commission, and central, provincial and district secretaries of the party’s social organisations. These are the Mozambican Women’s Organisation (OMM), the Mozambique Youth Organisation (OJM), and the Association of Veterans of the National Liberation Struggle (ACLLN).
The rally took place after a two day seminar of the Frelimo social organisations. Nyusi said Tete was chosen for this event because of the role it played in the war for Mozambican independence.
“Tete is one of the areas that took part in the liberation of Mozambique”, he said. “It is a blessed land, and so we decided to hold here the first meetings of the social organisations of the liberating party, Frelimo”.
Frelimo is not a party that claims to know everything. Nyusi said. “That’s why we undergo constant learning, and so we’ve been holding capacity building sessions, so that we are aligned with the objectives of the party, in order to serve our people well”.
At the closing session of the meeting of the Frelimo social organisations, Nyusi urged them to be open to new ideas, in order to guarantee their own renewal.
“The trust that the people continue to place in Frelimo”, he said, “arises to a large extent from the work that the social organisation have been doing in the communities, recruiting members for their own ranks and for the party”.
“It is you who guarantee Frelimo’s presence in all segments of Mozambican society”, declared Nyusi. “You are the greatest and most noble protectors of Frelimo. We must be cohesive if we are to meet the challenges of the moment”.
