The General Inspectorate of Labor (IGT) has closed the company RSM Mozambique Lda for operating illegally as an employment agency in Mozambique. The discovery came as the company planned to send 12 young Mozambicans to an alleged job placement in Nigeria.
According to an IGT press release, RSM Mozambique has no license to operate in the country, neither as a company nor as an agency recruiting and placing labour abroad.
The IGT found that, in addition to recruiting and placing labour without the authorization of the Minister overseeing that area of work, RSM had added a training component to assist in placing Mozambicans in work in a foreign country.
According to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MITESS), the 12 Mozambicans were scheduled to arrive on August 27, which is a violation of the Mozambique law, which states: “The activity of agencies deprived of employment without due licensing constitutes transgression punished with the closing and application of a fine graduated between five and 10 minimum national wages in force in the sector of non-financial services activities”.
IGT, which approves the licensing and regulation of private employment agencies, decided to close the company and to suspend Rafaela Alexandre Veigas Marques Quaresma, of Portuguese nationality, who acted as a consultant, because the company was operating in Mozambique illegally and her declaration was not in accordance with current labour law.
MITESS appeals to nationals who are seeking employment or training abroad to first establish the legality of any recruiting entity they consult.
