Exhibition: The Portuguese language in us
The collection of the Museu da Língua Portuguesa, from Brazil, which portrays the history and diversity of the language, is coming to Maputo. The ceremony will feature a show of poetry and music. There will be a diverse and exclusive cultural program throughout the exhibition period. Local activities are curated by the President of the Bibliographic Fund of the Portuguese Language, Nataniel Ngomane.
The content was organized from four themes: Portuguese Language in the World, History of the Portuguese Language in Brazil, Poetry and Prose, and Dialogues. With content advice from Brazilian composer, writer and professor of Brazilian Literature, José Miguel Wisnik, the exhibition makes a tour of the presence of the Portuguese language in the world, contact with other languages, its participation in Brazilian cultural formation and its presence in music, expressions of culinary arts and literature.
Route of the exhibition
When entering the exhibition, the visitor is led by a tour with curiosities about the countries that make up the CPLP - Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Prince and Timor-Leste) will discover the origins of the Portuguese language and how languages live in constant movement, how they are born, how they are crossed and transformed.
The influence of the Portuguese Language on the diversity of Brazilian culture will also be celebrated in two audiovisual experiences. Praça da Língua reproduces the experience-symbol of the Museum of the Portuguese Language: an audiovisual and immersive installation with pearls of artistic creation in Portuguese language, which form a mosaic of songs, poetry, literary excerpts and testimonials. The Music and Culinary area, in turn, addresses the relationship between language, identities and cultures. Already in the collection capsule of the speeches, the visitor is invited to leave his spoken testimony about their relationship with the language: the testimonies will also become part of the collection of the Museum of the Portuguese Language, whose reconstruction works end in the second half of 2019.
Guided tours
The exhibition will also have intense participation of young Mozambicans. Young students were selected to participate in training activities to act as mediators of educational visits. There are 4 daily visits of groups of students from primary and secondary schools, as well as universities, which will allow a more interactive contact with the exhibition. About the museum and exhibition
The first museum in the world devoted entirely to a language, the Portuguese Language Museum was inaugurated in Estação da Luz, a symbolic building in São Paulo, in 2006. In almost ten years of operation, it received about 4 million visitors. Today it is under reconstruction
The itinerant exhibition "The Portuguese Language in Us" proposes dialogues and exchanges with the Portuguese speakers on the African continent. It has already been shown in the city of Praia, in Cape Verde, and is currently on display in Luanda, Angola, and also in Paraty, Brazil, where it arrived for the 16th edition of Flip - Literary Festival of Paraty and will be shown until September 2. Currently, about 270 million people speak Portuguese on five continents.
The exhibition "A Língua Portuguesa em Nós" is an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil - Itamaraty, in partnership with the Government of the State of São Paulo, the Roberto Marinho Foundation, the Portuguese Language Museum and the International Institute of the Portuguese Language , coordinated by Expomus.
